Scientology tried to sneak into a small township in Bowdon, Georgia
to set up one of their "Narconon" facilities. Once their
true identity became known, local citizens launched an intensive local
education campaign to cover what Scientology's history has been,
and what their Narconon facility would really mean to local citizens.
Local citizens and the Carrollton Star News exposed Scientology and
drove the cult out of their town. The newspaper articles that the
local paper produced to alert citizens about Scientology are provided
here along with just a few of the numerous e-mails that local activists
exchanged with world-wide activists. The incident was another good
example of how the Internet community really can be a world-wide
community that bans together (pun intended) for the common good.
These are indexed in rough chronological order and I've had to censor
some of the information to protect the health and safety of some of
the local citizens of Bowdon.
What this series shows is that people can make a different in
their local communities and that the key to keeping one's community
safe from these types of scams is information. Scientology
tried to pull the whool over these good people's eyes presumably with
the hope that nobody would use the Internet to find out who they were
before it was far too late to stop them. Scientology snuck into
Clearwater, Florida under the assumed name "United Churches of
Florida," the cult became entrenched, and the one-time vacation
garden town of Clearwater has never recovered.
The name "Narconon"® is trademarked to the Scientology
organization through one of their many front groups. The name
"Scientology"® is also trademarked to the "Church"
of Scientology. Neither this web page, nor this web site, nor any of the
individuals mentioned herein assisting to educate the public about the
dangers of the Narconon scam are members of or representitives of the
Scientology organization.
If you or a loved one needs help -- real help -- there are
a number of rehabilitation programs you can contact. The real
Narcotics Anonymous organization
can get you in touch with real people who can help you.
